Chemical Peels: Skin Rejuvenation through Exfoliation

Safe & Effective ~ Minimal Downtime ~ Customized Results

Most Common Areas Treated:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolleté (Chest)

Chemical peels improve and smooth the texture of the skin by removing its damaged outer layers. They effectively reduce fine lines, age spots, enlarged pores, light sun damage, light freckling and minimal scarring. Chemical Peels may also remove pre-cancerous skin growths, soften acne facial scars and even control acne. Chemical peels promote the growth of new skin and collagen resulting in improved texture and radience that is noticeable in just a few days.

At Ageless Beauty your chemical peel is chosen specifically for your skin and desired results. Our Aesthetician will assess your skin and apply the best type of peel for optimal exfoliation results. Chemical peels are used for the treatment of sun damage, wrinkles, scarring, acne, rosacea and discoloration. They promote the growth of new skin and collagen with an improved texture and radiance that is noticeable in just a few days.

There is a large difference between salon facial peels and medical peels. Medical grade chemical peels allow for a higher percentage of concentration of acid and at a PH level that can actually reach the dermal junction (where the epidermal layer meets the dermis) to be able to actually receive the benefits associated with these types of treatments.
There are different types of acids that are used for chemical peels, each are effective in different ways depending upon your skin conditions to be corrected.

Retinoid Creams/Topical Solutions

Retinoids loosen plugs or stop plugs from forming in hair follicles, they also have direct anti-inflammatory effects on the skin. Topical agents promote exfoliation of the skin which helps thin the skin and reduce obstruction causing oils and bacterias to be trapped under the skin. The most common retinoids are Tretinoin, Retacnyl, Retin-A, and Stieva-A.

AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids)

Their anti-aging action can be compared to retinoids, but their mechanism of action is different. These acids interfere with certain enzymes that leads to the breaking away of the cells from each other, creating exfoliation – “metabolic action”. The benefits of AHA acids are that they thin the epidermis and allow for increased oxygen transfer and the transfer of nutrients to the skin. At physician only strengths these acids can cause the necessary reaction within the dermal junction to allow for increased collagen production and blood circulation.

The most common AHA acids are glycolic and lactic acids. Glycolic acid is derived from sugar-crops such as sugarcane, sugar beets it has high acidity, easy solubility and excellent capability to penetrate skin; improves circulation by stimulating skin cells.

Lactic extracted from milk. It is the only alpha hydroxy acid that occurs as a natural metabolite of healthy skin cells, so it doesn’t irritate the skin. Lactic acid is unique in its proven ability to boost the skin’s immune system and to help prevent abnormal precancerous growth. Because it is a superb humectant — lactic acid attracts skin’s existing water molecules to the surface, which stimulates the growth of new collagen and elastic fibers in the dermal layer of the skin. Over a period of time, the skin surface will begin to look younger and smoother.

BHA (Beta-Hydroxy Acids)

The best known BHA acid is salicylic acid which is derived from sodium phenolate (aspirin). It has a high affinity for lipids and exerts its keratolytic effect inside the pores – making it a helpful therapy for acne and reduce the inflamation of acne or other skin conditions. Similar to the AHA acids it helps thin the epidermis and allow for increased oxygen transfer and nutrients between skin layers.

Caustic Acids (TCA) – Trichloroacetic acid

TCA is a much stronger acid than AHA’s and similar to AHA in that it does not have general toxicity–not transported in blood vessels.
The destructive activity is a consequence of its acidity, but in peels, it is rapidly neutralized as it progresses through the layers of the skin – leading to coagulation of skin proteins. It is able to reach the papillary dermis and upper reticular dermis thus allowing for the successful treatment of actinic keratoses, and solar lentigines (brown/age spots). The benefits to this type of peel is that it will treat underlying skin conditions during the (9-10) day mechanism of action and can minimize or eliminate small lines and wrinkles on the face.

Chemical Peels offered at Ageless Beauty

Salicylic Peel
The Salicylic Acid Peel ( Best Treatment for Acne) is a beta hydroxy acid that is synthetically made. It is used in a variety of cosmetic applications, but its primary use is to treat acne. Salicylic acid is a common ingredient in over-the-counter acne treatments. Salicylic acid peels can be used to treat acne, fine wrinkles, minor skin discoloration and sun damage. A salicylic acid peel is an alternative to glycolic peels, which are more common.

Glow Peel- “Lunch Peel” (Jessners Peel)

Return your face to its soft, supple complexion by renewing collagen and elastin, eliminating fine lines and wrinkles, reducing pores, softening acne scars and blending uneven skin tone. This peel is one of the safest 15 minute “minimal downtime” medical peels designed to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layer. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, fine wrinkles and uneven pigmentation.

The Jessners Peel is a superior treatment designed to remove superficial layers of skin. It’s one of the most effective light cosmetic peel available. A Jessner peel consists of a mild peeling agent that can be used to lighten areas of hyperpigmentation and to treat aged sundamged skin. The Jessner peel is excellent for all skin types. It smoothes and rejuvenates skin, producing beautiful results in treating

• Mild to severe acne
• Discoloration
• Moderate wrinkling
• Sun damage

Peeling the face, neck, hands, and upper chest is also quite effective.

The Jessner’s peel is very beneficial for patients with acne, oily, or thicker skin, because it tends to decrease oil production and open clogged sebaceous follicles. It also contributes to the healing process of acne. The Jessner’s peel combines resorcinol, lactic acid, and salicylic acid to result in deeper penetration and greater exfoliation of the outer layers of skin cells. This deeper exfoliation produces noticeable flaking and exfoliation in the following three to four days after the peel, and within a week a smoother, healthier layer of skin will be revealed.

Commonly Asked Questions about Chemical Peels

What is a Chemical Peel?
A Chemical Peel is a noninvasive, exfoliating treatment that relies on fruit acids, herbs and antioxidants to loosen the “glue” that binds dead cells to the skin’s surface. It increases the production of collagen and improves the appearance of acne, rosacea, environmental damage, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and acne scarring. The result is smoother, tighter, more hydrated new skin, ultimately, leaving you with a clearer, more youthful complexion.

What skin conditions can be treated with a Chemical Peel?
Acne and acne scarring, rosacea, environmental damage, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles

How long does the treatment take?
A treatment normally takes between 30 and 45 minutes, although time varies depending upon the area being treated.

How soon will I see results?
Results can be seen about five to seven days after the first treatment, however a series of treatments is recommended in order to achieve optimal results.

Are there any potential side effects?
