Blue Light Acne Treatment ~ Results for hard to treat acne

Safe & Effective ~ No Downtime

Best treatment for:

Individuals with hard to treat acne.

Blue Light Acne Therapy is a pain-free high-intensity, narrow-band blue light used to treat mild to moderate acne.  The Blue Light Treatment targets and destroys p. acnes, the bacteria responsible for causing acne inflammation.  In some cases a topical photosensitizing solution is applied prior to the Blue Light Treatment.

Almost everyone has tried conventional approaches to acne (ie. creams, cleansers, TV products, prescription drugs, and other home remedies) with little or no effect.  Many encounter significant side effects from current treatments with topical medications and antibiotics which makes it even more frustrating when these therapies are not working.

The truth about acne is that it is the most common skin disease involving the sebaceous glands of the skin and effects over 80% of adolescents and many adults. Acne occurs when oil produced by the sebaceous glands do not reach the surface of the skin, but is trapped in the tiny pores or follicles of the skin.  This obstruction may close off the pore, causing the follicles wall to bulge, which creates a whitehead of bacteria.  If the pore does stay open, the top surface of the skin and obstruction may become darkened causing what is commonly known as a  “blackhead”.

In both cases the bacteria, Propionibacterium acne thrives in the clogged follicles.  When the bacteria and the pus leak from these follicles into the surrounding tissue, pimples are formed. Reasons for acne are multi-factorial which range from heredity, hormones, and nutrition.

Available topical treatments for acne are slow and frequently irritating. Oral therapies may be associated with increased bacterial resistance (antibiotics) or possible severe side effects (oral isotretinoin). Hormone replacement is an option in females but may not necessarily be appropriate in all cases.  In vitro and in vivo exposure of acne bacteria to 405-420 nm  ultraviolet (UV) free blue light results in photo-destruction of these bacteria through the effects on the porphyrins produced naturally by Propionibacterium acnes. A narrow band 420 nm UV free blue light has been shown to decrease inflammatory acne lesions. Clearance is about 80% for extended periods.

We take a combination approach to the treatment of acne using all available technologies and research available.   Typically we start with a retinoid therapy but also combine Chemical Peels, Hydrafacialsä, IPL lasers, and Photodynamic Therapies which take advantage of blue and red LED light therapies.  There is no one solution for acne as many claim and therefore offer the newest in treatment modalities for our patients so they can gain clearance from this skin condition.

What is Blue Light-Broad Band Light Acne Treatment?

Blue Light Acne Therapy is a pain-free high-intensity, narrow-band blue light used to treat mild to moderate acne.  The Blue Light Treatment targets and destroys p. acnes, the bacteria responsible for causing acne inflammation.

Acne is caused by overactive sebaceous glands in the skin. The sebaceous glands release sebum (oil) which can clog the pores, leaving the sebum trapped beneath the skin.  The resulting black and white heads cause Propronibacterium acnes (p. acnes) which can cause inflammation, pustules and nodules under the skin.

Patients opting for BBL  Acne Treatment are asked to remove their makeup before the treatment. The patients are also provided eye protections as a bright light are used for treatment. A cold gel is applied on the skin followed by IPL application on the affected skin surface.

Patients feel a sensation of sharp snapping during the course of the treatment. The most significant aspect of the treatment procedure is that the pulsed light used by BBL kills the bacteria causing acne. The treatment process also increases the enzymes that reduce the acne.

In some cases a topical photosensitizing solution is applied prior to the Blue Light Treatment.  A chemical peel may also be recommended as part of your Acne Treatment.

What is the effect of the treatment on the skin?

For few hours after the IPL treatment the skin looks pink. Within few days the various sizes of acne starts drying up and a normal skin appears.

To get more effective results multiple treatments are needed to reduce the bacteria load of inflammatory acne. However, the number of sitting depends upon the condition of the acne. Mild acne requires 8 weeks of treatment with 6 to 8 sitting. Severe acne may need 2 treatments per week.  Course of treatment includes self treatment at home by using products provided by the staff at Ageless Beauty after a proper guidance on its usages.
